Successive combination jet algorithm for hadron collisions.

چکیده
Jet finding algorithms, as they are used in ee and hadron collisions, are reviewed and compared. It is suggested that a successive combination style algorithm, similar to that used in ee physics, might be useful also in hadron collisions, where cone style algorithms have been used previously. 12.38.Bx, 13.87.-a Typeset using REVTEX

A general approach to jet cross sections in QCD
I illustrate a general formalism based upon the subtraction method for the calculation of next-to-leading order QCD cross sections for any number of jets in any type of hard collisions. I discuss the implementation of this formalism in a numerical program which generates partonic kinematical configurations with an appropriate weight, thus allowing the definition of arbitrary jet algorithms and ...
متن کاملThree-Jet Cross Section in Hadron Collisions at Next-to-Leading Order: Pure Gluon Processes.
The next-to-leading order three-jet cross section in hadron collisions is calculated in the simplified case when the matrix elements of all QCD subprocesses are approximated by the pure gluon matrix element. The longitudinallyinvariant k⊥ jet-clustering algorithm is used. The important property of reduced renormalization and factorization scale dependence of the next-toleading order physical cr...
متن کاملJet Analysis by Neural Networks in High Energy Hadron-hadron Collisions
We study the possibility to employ neural networks to simulate jet clustering procedures in high energy hadron-hadron collisions. We concentrate our analysis on the Fermilab Tevatron energy and on the k⊥ algorithm. We employ both supervised and unsupervised neural networks. In the first case we consider a multilayer feed-forward network trained by the backpropagation algorithm: our results show...
متن کاملJet Reconstruction in Heavy Ion Collisions
Measurements of strong suppression of inclusive hadron distributions and di-hadron correlations at high pT , while providing evidence for partonic energy loss, also suffer from geometric biases due to the competition of energy loss and fragmentation. The measurements of fully reconstructed jets is expected to lack these biases as the energy flow is measured independently of the fragmentation de...
متن کاملThe Average Number of Sub - jetsin a
We calculate the average number of sub-jets in a jet, deened using a recently proposed jet clustering algorithm for hadron-hadron collisions. Our result is exact to leading order in S ; and resums large leading and next-to-leading logarithms of the resolution variable, y cut ; to all orders in S .
